Raggiungeranno il mercato il prossimo 31 ottobre le "Smile sessions", ovvero - come dichiarato dalla stessa band - "la lezione più vicina all'originale" dell'"album perduto" dei Beach Boys, "Smile": la pubblicazione - che sarà resa disponibile sotto forma di doppio CD, doppio vinile e in diverse versioni di cofanetti - ha visto i tre elementi superstiti della leggendaria formazione californiana - Brian Wilson, Al Jardine e Mike Love - lavorare alle incisioni originali - realizzate 44 anni fa e da allora abbandonate - del disco. Lavorato tra il '66 e il '67 e inteso dal creatore Brian Wilson come ideale seguito del monumentale "Pet sounds", il disco fu abortito per il fragile stato psichico dello stesso Wilson, che nel novembre del '66 iniziò ad accusare i primi sintomi di depressione e disturbo bipolare. Lo stesso Wilson, nel 2004, ne pubblicò una versione solista.
Nel frattempo, la casa di produzione cinematografica River Road Entertainment ha acquistato i diritti per un film biografico sul principale compositore dei Beach Boys: il soggetto della pellicola, attualmente nelle prime fasi di lavorazione, è stato scritto da Oren Moverman, già nominato all'Oscar per "The messenger" e in questi mesi coinvolto dalla Universal e dalla Working Title nel progetto per un biopic sul leader dei Nirvana Kurt Cobain.
